Proving to myself that I can work being away from home
It’s a routine by now. It’s pretty nice with routines. It’s like a routine in a non routine situation. It’s like the nice combination of comfort and daily excitement.. If that makes any sense 🙂
My experiment over the past few weeks have been to try to get some work done. It’s like I didn’t really trust myself a 100 percent to have the discipline to handle my work decently when being on the other side of the world.
So that’s why I have really put my main focus on work and daily practicalities. It’s like I wanted to prove to myself that I could earn my living working away from home.
I have a couple of deadlines in the last few days and I took the chance of getting quite a few hours of work done. So now my confidence has grown quite a bit and I feel pretty sure that I could not only make my living working away from home, but actually develop my business as well and increase my salary over time which feels very very nice.
To me it means that I could be on the road, traveling around as long as I would want to. I guess this is really what I have been dreaming of for a long time. So it’s a really cool feeling arriving at this point. I feel so happy and grateful.
My typical “home cooked” dinner
It’s true that eating out is as cheap if not cheaper than cooking at home here in Thailand.
Though going out all the time actually takes time and also gives you less control over what you are eating. So I generally prefer eating in my room or apartment, at least when I am working a lot, as I am right now.
Here’s my typical food that I cook in my current hotel room. I cook some rice in my rice cooker, I have some meat or other ready to eat addition to the rice in my fridge. I also see to it that I have some fresh vegetables and lime and things in stash to make the whole thing a bit more interesting. The food feels very natural and fresh, and it’s quite frankly very delicious.
My favorite breakfast
It’s just to admit that I have my traditions and habits. It doesn’t matter if I am half across the globe. I like my natural Yoghurt and mĂĽsli or granola or something similar for breakfast or snack during the day. I have now found a good substitute for what eat back home. The Yoghurt is really great, and the crunchy too. So happy to find a Yoghurt that was not sweetened.
Dinner time
Can’t remember what this kind of dish is called. But you boil your own food anyhow. It’s really good. Actually there’s another version where you fry it on a kind of pan in the same style, called Mokata, that is even more delicious in my opinion, but this one is close enough, and also probably more healthy.
New market place
I also found a new Market place on my way back from Jomtien. I actually bought my dinner there yesterday and I bought the same thing today from the same lady, who also smiled obviously recognizing me from the day before. She sells half a chicken (or maybe duck.. I’m not sure) for 50 Baht.
These markets are everywhere by the way. At first they can be a bit hard to spot since it’s just a cluster of parasols, but underneath there is intense business going on.
My local food stop
One of the nice things about Thailand is of course the nice tasting and very affordable food that you can buy almost anywhere. I have a small street food restaurant down the street from where I live. It’s a perfect lunch walk and a delicious noodle soup for 40 Baht (1 USD).
My rice cooker delivers
Dinner today was rice and chicken/coconut soup. Very nice and also one of the cheapest meals so far I think. The soup (the one in the transparent plastic bag) cost me 26 Bath and the rice I cooked myself (just put the frozen peas on top of it for a while after the rice was finished).
Back to BigC food shopping
Seems my life revolves around food and work right now. It’s pretty nice though, I enjoy eating and working. Last time on BigC I bought some hardware like the rice cooker but this time I could focus more on the actual food. I like BigC it’s the closest thing to a standard grocery store back in Sweden. But of course with the welcome addition of Thai foods and merchandise.
